Stonewall Hounds is hosting a Trail Ride to benefit Safe Haven Horse Rescue at Slate River Farm in Buckingham on Saturday, August 23, starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $25 and includes lunch.
Slate River Farm features gentle rolling hills and many trails throughout its 2,000 acres. Owner is Kathy Shannon.
All proceeds will go to Safe Haven, a horse rescue located in Meherrin. Funds are always needed to cover feed and medical costs. A building project is also underway to replace a barn destroyed in a storm last summer.
“Since June we’ve found homes for a donkey, six horses, and three dogs,” stated Karren Cooper of Safe Haven.
Directions to Slate River Farm (from Rt. 60): go north on Hall Rd., (Rt. 648) road narrows and at “Y” turn right on Slate River Mill Rd. (Rt. 649), first farm on right has black electric gate and is Slate River Farm, go to second swinging gate with slate sign that says Buck-N-Hand Farm, enter there and park before club house on left in long field.
A negative Coggins test is required for horses and riders will be required to sign an insurance waiver. For further information or directions, call (804) 240-2953.
