Fireworks After Dark At Airport On Sunday

FARMVILLE — Blown away by a thundering forecast for the Fourth of July, the fuse has been re-lit for Fireworks After Dark this Sunday evening, August 31 at the Farmville Regional Airport.

Town of Farmville officials are hoping the two-month rain delay has whet the appetite and will prove as successful as the Labor Day weekend display last year.

The fireworks are expected to take off at the airport with no difficulties, given the weekend meteorological prognostications.

That’s certainly the big bang theory the Town anticipates proving.

The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. with music by Soul Expressions Band and Upscale Band & Show.

The fireworks, as Fireworks After Dark would seem to suggest, will pursue their skyward flight after dark.

The gates, however, will open up at 4:30 p.m. and admission is $5 per vehicle.

Oddly, this marks the second consecutive year rain washed out the Town’s Fourth of July fireworks plans, pushing them back to Labor Day weekend, where attendance was boosted by the return of college students.

Despite the absence of an Independence Day theme, the sky will break out in a pyrotechnic rash of rockets-red-glaring proportions.

Coolers are welcome to attend with you, but no glass bottles will be permitted.

No pets are allowed—so leave the goldfish and parakeet at home—and don’t bring your grill, either.

Do come with expectations, however, for sights and sound effects:

Crackles and hummers, bangers, boomers or whistlers will accompany the visual effects found in many commercial fireworks displays that include peony, chrysanthemum, strobe, falling leaf, dahlia, spider, horsetail, waterfall and diadem.
