ROANOKE, August 12 — Alfred “Laddie” Hughes, 91, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 10, 2014.

He is survived by his children, Al Hughes and wife, Darlene, and Carol Slate and husband, Carl; grandchildren, Michele Vanover and husband, David, Brian Hughes, Michael Hughes and wife, Katherine, and Ashley Fers and husband, Josh.

Special thank you to Mr. Hughes’ angels, Jacqueline, Renee, Tammy, Gentle Shepard Hospice, and Dr. Robert Patten, Jr. for allowing him to stay comfortably in his home.

The family requests donations be made in his name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2216 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke VA 24017 or to Douglas Church, c/o Joyce Slayton, 95 Well Drilling Drive, Farmville, VA 23901.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 13 at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday (today), August 12 from 4-7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home.
