JULY 17 — Bascom Ray Willis, 80, departed this life on July 15, 2014 at Trinity Missions of Farmville. He was born February 22, 1934 to the late Trigg and Lula Powers Willis.

Mr. Willis was an avid gardener and loved sharing his prize vegetables with family and friends. When the gardening season was over you could usually find him fishing.

He lived at Trinity Mission for the last four years where staff and residents had become part of his family. He loved them all but had two very special people he relied on; Ms. Latoya Jennings, his nurse, his buddy and friend, who provided kind loving care at times above and beyond the call of duty. He also loved and relied on Ms. Pam Morris, assistant activities director, often waiting at the door for her to arrive for her shift so he could find out what fun activities were planned for the day. He also loved the bingo games and the fishing trips she took them on. All the staff at Trinity Missions of Farmville made his last years happy and they took such good care of him.

He is survived by two half sisters and several nieces and nephews; and preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Willis Frazier.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home.

Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, is serving the family.
