JANUARY 28 — The Rev. Amanda Sheree Corbin, daughter of the late Leon Bradley and Frances L. Williams, was born in Monroeville, Alabama on May 23, 1959. She departed this earthly life into life eternal on Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014 at Charlotte Primary Care in Charlotte Court House.
Mrs. Corbin received her formal education in the public schools of Brooklyn, NY. She later received her Practical Nurse License in 1987 from the Springfield Gardens School of Practical Nursing in Springfield Gardens, NY. In 2006, she graduated as an RN with Associates of Applied Science in Nursing from Helene Fuld College of Nursing. And in 2013 she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Liberty University in Lynchburg with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in Christian Counseling.
For almost 30 years Mrs. Corbin was dedicated to her role as a nurse and caregiver. From 1989-1992, she worked as an LPN for the Williams Nurses Agency in New York. From 1992-2005, she was employed as a LPN Charge Nurse at Promenade Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Rockaway Park, NY. From 2006-2007, she worked at Atlantis Rehabilitation & RHCF in Brooklyn, NY as their Unit Coordinator. She moved to Meherrin in 2008 and from 2008-2011 she worked at The Woodland, Inc. in Farmville as the Unit Manager. Her last position was held at HOPE Community Services Head Start Program as the most loved and caring Health and Nutrition Manager from 2012-2013.
She possessed a loving, kind hearted and fiery spirit. She was licensed as a minister in the Friendship Baptist Church of Jamaica, NY under the tutorage and great leadership of Apostle Bishop Mitchell H. Hudson. Upon moving to Virginia she found a covering at Race Street Baptist Church where she found a great friend, mentor and spiritual leader in Dr. James H. Taylor III. She first became the Youth Minister, and later Assistant to the Pastor and Worship Leader. All who knew her and came in contact with her were blessed by her presence; she was widely known as “The Praiser”. Wherever she went she was sure to spread the Word of God.
Mrs. Corbin was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, “Nannah” and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish loving memories her “knight in shining armor,” her husband, Henry L. Corbin; her grandmother, Sarah Williams of Monroeville, South Carolina; her mother, Frances L. Williams; two brothers, Arlorino Williams and Arnim Williams of Columbia, SC; her children, ShaNequa Mosley (Andre), Alicia Carrington (Nathalonne), and Henry Corbin Jr. (Keshia); five grandchildren, Ja’Nyla Green, Avan Carrington, Jordan Corbin, Jalen Corbin and Charlize Corbin and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Syllister Williams.
A funeral service was held Sunday, January 19 at Race Street Baptist Church, Farmville, with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Oliver & Eggleston Funeral Establishment, Farmville, was in charge of arrangements.
