Astronomy Event At High Bridge

High Bridge Trail State Park will host an astronomy event on Friday, Dec. 13, beginning on the bridge at 6:30 p.m.
The Geminid Meteor shower peaks this night, providing a good opportunity to look for shooting stars. The waxing gibbous moon, three days before full, may outshine some of the dimmer meteors but will itself serve as an interesting object to view through binoculars and a telescope.
Participants will get a chance to see the lunar terrain and learn about the moon's phases as they watch for falling stars. People who wish to bring lawn chairs and blankets can simply sit back and enjoy the sky. All attendees should anticipate increased wind on the bridge and remember to dress warmly.
High Bridge Trail State Park's astronomy events are held near the center of High Bridge where the view of the sky is unobstructed. This location is approximately 1.25 miles from the closest parking lot (High Bridge Trail State Park's River Road lot), so please allow ample time to traverse the distance and remember to bring drinking water.
The event is free, but a parking fee applies at the River Road parking lot.
