Edith Holland Harrison, 94

CARTERSVILLE, October 1 — Edith Holland Harrison, 94, of Cartersville, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Alexandria, after a lengthy illness.

The Cumberland County native was born on April 26, 1919, a daughter of Robert Prince Holland and Ethel Stonnell Holland. She attended Madison College and received B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Longwood College. Mrs. Harrison taught in the Cumberland County Public Schools and Huguenot Academy (now Blessed Sacrament Huguenot) in Powhatan, where she later served as Lower School Coordinator.

She was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Cartersville and active in church and community affairs for many decades.

She is survived by a sister, Lucy Holland Martin of Cartersville; son, Robert Randolph Harrison of Baltimore; daughter, Judith Harrison Smith of Alexandria; son-in-law, Stephen Page Smith of Alexandria; granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith DiStanislao of Richmond; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harrison Stone of Richmond; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mrs. Harrison was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Edmund Randolph Harrison, who died in 1999.

The family will receive friends at home in Cartersville, Thursday, October 3, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 4 at St. James’ Church in Cartersville, with burial following in the Cartersville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. James’ Episcopal Church or the Cumberland County Christmas Mother.
