FARMVILLE — Saturday was a busy day at Main St. Lanes due to the Special Olympics Area 12 Bowling Tournament. This tournament is held as a qualifier for the Virginia Special Olympics Fall Championships that is held annually and will take place in Virginia Beach this year.

There were 28 participants in Saturday's tournament; eight ramp bowlers and 20 regular bowlers.

“This is the most popular Special Olympics sport in this area. It is good for the participants because it is a great source of friendship and support,” commented Joyce Ward who helped coordinate the tournament.

The bowlers are broken up into three different divisions according to skill level. To prepare for this event, bowlers practiced every Thursday and Saturday for five weeks. “It makes Main St. Lanes feel very good to support Special Olympics,” said Randy Reynolds of MSL.

“They are really good about cheering each other on and they have a good time,” added Ward.
