PENHOOK, September 17 — Nancy Brisentine Noel, 74, of Penhook, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2013, after a six and one-half battle with a brain disorder that gradually robbed her of her strength, her vitality, her personality and her mind. She was born in Prospect and graduated from Farmville High School in 1957 and was a 1961 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing and in the first class to receive both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and an RN.

In her prime she was life loving, never met a stranger, quick with a smile that would light up a room and had a laugh that was highly contagious. Until her health deserted her, she enjoyed annual family vacations to Garden City, SC, snorkeling vacations to numerous Caribbean Islands, and travel to far off places such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia and New Zealand. She found joy in weekend visits by the grandchildren to her Smith Mountain Lake home at the Water’s Edge where they swam, boated and played.

She also found great joy and encouragement in her church family in Christ Community Church of Penhook. They were loving, understanding and supportive of her during her decline and her family deeply appreciates their care.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Howard Noel of Penhook; daughter, Diane Chavira and husband, Richard of Roanoke; grandson, Cameron; granddaughters, Devin and Brynn; daughter, Dr. Kimberly Noel and husband, Dr. Mark Wadstrom of Goodview; granddaughter, Christine; grandsons, Christopher and Jacob; and a sister, Joyce Hicks of Farmville. She loved her daughters and grandchildren and took great pride in all their many achievements.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Church, at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21 with Pastor Jim Hight officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey’s South Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Christ Community Church, 14900 Old Franklin Turnpike, Penhook, VA 24137.

Arrangements by Oakey’s South Chapel, Roanoke.
