Charles “Charlie” McDowell Hall

BUCKINGHAM, June 20 – Charles “Charlie” McDowell Hall, of Buckingham County, one of identical twins born to Thomas Bondurant Hall and Ruth Swoope Hall, passed away peacefully at his home, also his birthplace, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the age of 91 after a long and joyful life.

Mr. Hall was Ruritan Club President, Member of Masonic Lodge, Charter Member of Buckingham County Rescue Squad, Young Farmer Club President, and Deacon of Maysville Presbyterian Church. He attended Fork Union Military Academy, was a Virginia Tech 43' BS Agricultural Economics Cadet Core ROTC Graduate and served two years in the US Army Air force as a Gunnery Instructor. He was an avid entrepreneur with a myriad of professions such as James River Bus Lines Driver, co-owner of Hall-Llewellyn Service Station, nine years on the family farm raising tobacco and Hereford cattle, 30 years as an insurance broker-agent, owned tractor trailer which hauled pulpwood, owned the Buckingham Inn/Corner Tastee Freeze for 13 years and retired at the age of 84 after many years as a Magistrate for Buckingham County.

He is survived by his beloved twin, Thomas Bondurant Hall Jr. and wife, Iva; his children, Sandra H. Banks of Richmond and Bonnie H. Agee and husband, Hamilton Agee of North Chesterfield; seven grandchildren, Brandy Banks Sydow and husband, Joey, Steven Craig Love Jr. and wife, Sarah, Mandi Love Galloway and husband, John, Virginia Dare Banks and husband, Bobby Leech, Peyton Patrick Bertwell, Scott Agee and wife, Julie, and Mathew Agee and wife, Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Frances Mei Tu, Matthew McDowell Ferguson, James Edwin Galloway, Joseph Hall Galloway, Jacob Hamilton Agee, and Noelle Kathryn Agee. He had many loved nieces and nephews from the Hall and Llewellyn families. Also loved were his many friends and those caregivers who loved and cared for him in his final years, Betty, Sharon, Shirley, Linda, Cheryl and Jennifer as well as his physicians, Dr. Theresa Rupp and Jennifer at Buckingham Family Physicians and his cardiologist, Dr. Shelton Thomas. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia Llewellyn Hall and two sisters, Ruth Ellis Johns and husband, Monroe, and Elizabeth Swoope Forbes and husband, CO.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home.

Church service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at Maysville Presbyterian Church, Buckingham Court House, followed by a graveside service at Buckingham Community Cemetery.
