The Friends of the Appomattox River conducted their annual Spring River Cleanup April 20. Ten FAR members along with five Hampden-Sydney College student volunteers collected trash along Wilck's Lake, Buffalo Creek, the Appomattox River, Briery Lake and Sandy River Reservoir, venturing as far as 20 miles upstream and downstream from Farmville. Twenty-seven bags provided by Clean Virginia Waterways were filled with assorted debris including 29 tires, a truck bench seat, a wrecked bicycle and a propane tank. The next Friends of the Appomattox River waterways cleanup will be in June, followed by the annual Fall cleanup.
