Friends of the Appomattox River sponsored a Canoe Safety Course March 29 in the Longwood University Pool. After an information session on water safety techniques, instructors Rene Kesler and Lee Woodruff showed participants proper strokes and methods for righting and re-entering capsized canoes. After repeated practice, these members are now ready for their upcoming float on the upper Appomattox River.
