Longwood University's Camerata Singers will perform with the Richmond Symphony in a musical tribute to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation on Saturday, April 13, at 8 p.m. at Richmond CenterStage's Carpenter Theater.
The Richmond Symphony and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commission of the Virginia General Assembly are sponsoring what is one of the signature events of the sesquicentennial celebrations. Though the event is free and open to the public, tickets are required. Tickets are available through April 5 at the Richmond Symphony website: www.richmondsymphony.com.
The Camerata Singers are among the choral groups from Virginia colleges that will participate. The concert will be recorded and broadcast on WCVE television and radio Thursday, April 25, at 9 p.m.
The choral and orchestral production will tell the story of emancipation in historical context, reflecting the turbulent times in the nation's history, illuminating the perseverance of the human spirit and celebrating freedom and liberation.
