Lucy Wallace Nase

ROANOKE, December 6 – Lucy Wallace Nase, a 52 year resident of Roanoke, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the age of 92. Named for her mother, Lucy Hoye Wallace, she was born in Valdosta, Georgia on November 23, 1920. She moved to Lynchburg at the age of 11 when her father, Dr. Richard William Wallace became the pastor of the First Christian Church on Rivermont Avenue.

She graduated in 1942 from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She married Lynchburg native Henry T. Nase in 1942 during the height of WorId War II and they were happily married for 49 years. An accomplished solo soprano, artist, pianist, gardener, seamstress, mathematician, and erstwhile investor and real estate speculator, she became a middle school math teacher at the age of 45 in order to help educate her three children, Dr. Harold W. Nase, who predeceased her, Dr. Elizabeth N. Duckworth and Martha N. Donovan. J.D.

Ms. Nase is survived by two daughters, daughter-in-law, Anne Nase Wilkins; sons-in-law, John M. Duckworth and Kevin C. Donovan; six grandchildren, William W. Nase, H. Ross Nase, Sara D. Wagoner, J. Alexander Duckworth, John W. Donovan and Virginia H. Donovan, and four great-grandchildren, William Nase, Jonathan Nase, Marion Nase and Henry Nase.

There will be a memorial service at Covenant Presbyterian Church on December 8 at 1 p.m. following a private family graveside service.
