DECEMBER 4 – Josephine G. “JoJo” Helms, of Farmville, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012. She lived to the ripe old age of 87. JoJo truly loved her grandkids, Brooks and James, and would take them to the pool when they were young and pick up turtles on the way and bring them home.
JoJo loved to eat lunch at Merk's and sit with her lunch buddies, Lewis, Scott and Marshall. They were great friends and her second family. She was heartbroken when smoking was banned from restaurants. She never had a bad word for anyone. Everyone said they wanted to “grow up and be just like JoJo.” She once said that if you are born an Episcopalian, you never had to go to church and she kept her word. JoJo was an avid couch potato and everyday would have her cocktails along with her cigarettes on the sofa followed by a brief nap.
Up until her final day she had a smile on her face and said she “never felt better.” Her kind, loving, fun nature will be missed, but we are sure wherever she is now, she will be the life of the party!
She is survived by a daughter, Kelly Jones and husband, Gary; son, Jim Helms and wife, Grace; and grandchildren, James Helms IV and Brooks Tombs and husband, Trey. She is preceded in death by her husband, James M. Helms Jr.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A special thanks to the Woodland and staff of the Watson Wing for providing her a wonderful life. Thanks for all the fun, JoJo.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 5, at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends, Wednesday, morning from 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
