OCTOBER 9 – Clarence Mann Stearnes Sr., 80, of Farmville and formerly of Prospect, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012. He was born on May 11, 1932 to the late Judge and Martha Foster Stearnes. He was retired from Kyanite Mining Corporation.
Survivors are his four sons, Clarence M. “Juney” Stearnes Jr. (Eva), Olven W. “Bubba” Stearnes (Debbie), Howard L. “Boots” Stearnes, and Eugene “Tinker” Stearnes; daughter, Anita S. Mayes (Albert); brother, Judge L. Stearnes; two sisters, Olive S. Jamerson and Evelyn S. Huddleston; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Loveday Stearnes, sister, Nancy Jamerson and brother, Nathan Stearnes.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with a reception following in the church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at the funeral home.
