BUCKINGHAM – Browns Chapel will be hosting Vacation Bible School for the Buckingham United Methodist Charge on July 9 through 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day.
Utilizing the theme Overboard for Jesus, classes will be available for children of ALL AGES.
To kick-off the weeklong VBS, a great afternoon is planned for Sunday, July 8, beginning at 2 p.m.
Festivities will include a cookout, horseback riding, face painting, beanbag toss, moon bounce, and snow cones.
The entire Buckingham UMC Charge invites everyone to join with them for this very special week of VBS-and to the July 8 kick-off.

Here's a fantastic opportunity for youth ages 8 thought 17 to enjoy an afternoon with nature.
Holliday Lake State Park is offering The Kayak Kids, a great half-day adventure that not only provides the basics of kayaking but an enjoyable Friday afternoon on the lake with park interpreters. The program begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
In July, the program will be offered on July 20; and in August, on August 3, 17, and 31.
Advanced registration is required by 12 noon on the Thursday before the respective program date.

Cedar Baptist Church located on Route 650, Bell Road, is hosting Vacation Bible School beginning Sunday, July 8 through Thursday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9 each evening. This year's theme if Plant the Seed for Jesus.
To kick-off the event, the church is providing a picnic supper on Sunday, July 8, at 5:30 p.m.
During the week, classes will be available for all ages including adults. However, the adult class will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

Join with Mt. Zion Baptist Church for Vacation Bible School, from 6 to 9 each evening, beginning on Monday, July 9, through Friday, July 13. Classes will be available for ages three through 12.
The week will include music, crafts, recreation, class time, snacks and LOTS of fun.
To launch this great week, Mt. Zion is hosting a pizza party on Sunday, July 8, at 5 p.m. At that time, those planning to attend will be able to register.
On Friday evening, the finale will include a picnic.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Dillwyn on Wednesday, July 11, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, of Dillwyn.
This visit is sponsored by the Buckingham County Ruritan Club. And, yes, the Ruritans will be grilling up hot dogs with all the fixings for donors.

Buckingham 4-H is sponsoring Summer Sensation Day Camps for Cloverbuds, ages five through eight; and Junior Clovers, for ages 9 through 13, at the Buckingham Agricultural Center.
Cloverbud Day Camp is scheduled for July 23 through 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Theme for this day camp for five to eight year-olds is Fun with Foods.
Along with activities and crafts at the Ag Center, campers will also be able to experience a couple of theme-related field trips including visits to Saunders's Brother's Orchard, Edible Landscaping, and Bear Creek State Park.
The camp fee of $40 covers snacks each day, bus fees, trip admission costs and camp supplies. Each child will need to pack a lunch and bring bottled water every day. For more information and/or registration, contact the Buckingham Extension Office at (434) 969-4261.
Day Camp for Junior Clovers, ages nine through 13, is scheduled for July 30 through August 2, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The theme for this age group is Photography.
Ellis Acres Memorial Park will once again host Quick Start Tennis for kids ages six to 11. The first clinic is scheduled for July 16 through 20, from 6 to 7 p.m.; and the second clinic will be July 30 through August 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $20.
Quick Start Tennis was developed by the United States Tennis Association to introduce tennis to youth at an early age. The equipment, which is designed for children, is furnished, and participants will get to take two of the kid-friendly tennis balls home.

Yes, Buckingham, the Summer Arts Camp sponsored by the Buckingham County Arts Council will be held again this year.
From Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, this amazing day camp offers youth ages eight to 15 an opportunity to explore the arts.
Classes include photography with Becky Lutz; pastel drawing and acrylic painting with Nan Holt; ballet and modern dance with Gerri Sawtelle; choral music with Melody Day; watercolor painting with Ursula Burgess; ballroom dancing with Sandra Mangialetti; polymer clay and paper marbling with Anna Spears, pottery with Jennifer Abruzzo, tie-dye with Annie Mulder, and drama/theatre. .
Cost is $35. However, each additional child in the same family will receive a $5 discount.
On Friday, July 13, the week of camp will conclude with a pizza party for students at noon; student performance, which is open to the public, at 3:30; and a cookout for students and their families at 5 p.m.

Summer Art Classes at the Buckingham County Arts Center include Drawing for Beginner to Intermediate. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with the first session on July 17. The course is open to students from age 12 through adults.
Leah Olivier, a professional artist for over 30 years who holds a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University, will be the instructor. Olivier has experience in teaching students from ages five to ninety.

John Staton, the board of supervisors' representative for District 4, which encompasses the Maysville Precinct, is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on July 17, 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Agricultural Center.
Staton will provide an overview of what the board has accomplished and is considering thus far. Additionally, he will open the floor to questions and concerns.
Attendance, said Staton, is not limited to those in his district. All Buckingham County residents are welcome.
Buckingham Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, July 15.
During the 10 a.m. worship service, the featured speaker will be Captain John Ezzo.
At 11 a.m., the Bowling Family will perform in concert. This trio includes Mike Bowling, his spouse Kelly Crabb Bowling, and Kelly's sister Terah Crabb Penhollow.
After the great music, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the traditional covered dish luncheon is planned.

Youth Football & Cheerleading Registration: Signups for ages five through 13 will be held at Gene Dixon Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, July 7, 14, and 21. Cost is $55 per child. However, additional children in the same family will be able to register for $50.
Buckingham Co-Ed Basketball Camp: Basketball Camp for youth ages eight through 14 will be held July 16 through 19, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day, in the gymnasium at Maysville Baptist Church. The $25 fee includes a T-shirt. Please register ASAP.
Dwayne Braxton, a former player at James Madison University, will be the lead instructor. Working with him is Rick Cadwell, a former player at Hampden-Syndey College.
Co-Ed Tennis Clinic: A Co-Ed Tennis Clinic, for ages eight through 18, is planned for July 16 through 20 at Buckingham County High School, from 9:30 to 11 each morning. This clinic is open to beginner and intermediate players. Cost is $20. Erin Lake will be instructing this clinic.
British Soccer Camp: British Soccer Camp will be working with the Buckingham County Department of Recreation to provide a weeklong Soccer Camp from July 30 through August 3.
Player development for ages five to eight years old will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day; and for ages nine through 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $120 per child and includes a free ball and T-shirt.
This program is designed to provide your child a head start in player development for upcoming fall soccer leagues, and school soccer. Players will learn the ABC's of soccer, the moves, freestyle soccer, dribbling, passing/receiving, and much more. Registration is available at www.challengersports.com.
