Fire destroyed the home of Wayne Dowdy on Whittakers Lake Road just south of Farmville on Monday night despite the best efforts of all seven Prince Edward County Volunteer Fire Departments and Cumberland County's Randolph Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday morning.
