Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is looking for an enthusiastic young man or woman, between the ages of 16 and 26, to serve as its Youth Park Ambassador Volunteer for promoting its programs and events, especially to young adults.

The Youth Park Ambassador Program, a nation-wide volunteer organization, specifically is focused on the use of social media, photography, and other media to highlight the health, recreational, and cultural benefits that can be realized while visiting and enjoying the nation's state parks-in this case the Virginia Park System.

A youth park ambassador at Sailor's Creek would be engaged in helping to host periodic events and activities, taking photographs, maintaining a Facebook page, and networking with other state youth park ambassadors for periodic Virginia State Park promotional campaigns.

Sailor's Creek's youth park ambassador volunteer would also participate in living history events, from time-to-time, dressing in period costume to host programs and events.

Interested persons who wish to apply, should go on the internet to www. americasstateparks.org/Ambassador-Application. Specify Virginia State Parks and Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park, as the desired location for service.

This program is ideal for someone looking for a way to meet his or her social outreach or public service requirement in conjunction with his or her high school diploma or college degree programs.

For further information, contact Chief Rangers Sam Wilson, Jr. or Lee Wilcox at 804-561-7510 or email: sailorscreek@dcr.virginia.gov.

The purpose of Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is to preserve the cultural landscape as it was in 1865, and to provide the historic setting to tell the story of the last major battle of the Civil War in Virginia before the surrender of Robert E. Lee's Army at Appomattox Courthouse, and its impact on the citizens of Southside Virginia.
