Small Quake

CUMBERLAND – According to reports from the U.S. Geological Survey, a small earthquake was felt in Cumberland County at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16.
The magnitude of the earthquake, according to the USGS data on its website, was 2.2. The earthquake's epicenter was centered 16 miles east of Dillwyn, 17 miles south of Columbia, and 18 miles north east of Farmville.
Reports received by several Cumberland County Public Schools teachers linked the sound of the small quake on Friday to “thunder.”
