BUCKINGHAM – On Sunday, March 11, 2:30 p.m., at Maysville Presbyterian Church, Historic Buckingham, Incorporated is hosting a presentation and book signing by Joanne Yeck, author of At A Place Called Buckingham.
The book offers much-expanded versions of 12 articles Yeck wrote for the county's 250th Anniversary.
After Yeck's PowerPoint presentation, you'll be able to meet the author and enjoy refreshments.
The program is free and open to the public. Maysville Presbyterian Church is located on Route 60 in the Village of Buckingham Court House.
On Saturday, March 10, Citizens in Action is sponsoring a bake sale to benefit Saint Paul's College. The sale will take place in front of Farmer's Foods and will begin at 7:30 a.m. until all baked goods are sold.
“Help us raise money for a college experiencing a financial crisis, a college which has educated many of our leaders in Buckingham and throughout the country,” shared a spokesperson.
How does winning $5,000 sound to you? And, how about an evening out that includes a great barbecue dinner, silent auction, and the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to ensure that youth and adults will continue to enjoy the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center?
This fun filled evening is this Saturday, March 10, so if you want to get your chance at the $5,000, you better get your ticket TODAY. Just stop by the Dental Offices of Dr. Wes Saxon, located on Route 15, just north of Sprouses Corner.
For $75, you'll get a ticket for a raffle that offers a grand prize of $5,000. Additionally, two ticket holders will each win $75; three will win $100; one $250, and another $500.
With your ticket, you'll also be entitled to two admissions to the silent auction and barbecue. Ticket holders may also bring additional guests at $8 per person.
The drawing and festivities will take place on March 10 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center. Silent auction begins at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 5; and the drawings start at 6 p.m.
Buckingham Active Seniors will meet on Tuesday, March 13, at 1 p.m., at the VFW Hall, located on Rt. 60.
B.A.S. is free to join for those ages 50 and up. New members are always encouraged to attend, and feel free to bring a friend.
For those attending this month's meeting, be sure to dress festively in green for St. Patrick's Day festivities.

Buckingham County TRIAD will meet on Wednesday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the conference room of the county administration building.
Adult Co-Ed Volleyball will continue through March. This FREE program is held on Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., in the gymnasium at the Nazarene Campground, which is located across from Buckingham County Middle School.

Straight Street-Buckingham will host its annual fundraising banquet on Saturday, March 17, 6 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Dillwyn.
Dinner, catered by Dale Wright and Nancy Eagle, will consist of heavy hors d'oeuvres.
After dinner, Just Us Country Gospel Band will provide a fun-filled, toe-tapping program.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is sponsoring a basic hunter education class at James River State Park on Friday, March 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students should bring their own lunch on Saturday.
Please note that this is the basic hunter education class and NOT the internet-based course.
Now here's the great part, camping will be available that weekend at the park. Prospective students interested in making this a camping and hunter education weekend need to contact the park for reservations and fees for the camping part.
The hunter education course is free but students are asked to pre-register at www.huntfishva.com or by calling (434)983-3242.
In Virginia, hunter education is mandatory for 12 to 15 year olds and all first time hunters 16 years of age and older.
From now through March 23, B.A.S., Buckingham Active Seniors is sponsoring a sweet fundraiser that offers confectionary Easter eggs.
These tasty treats are flavored confectionary creations containing a base of powdered sugar, think peanut butter balls, or cream cheese. Then the egg-shaped treat is dipped in a delicious chocolate coating.
B.A.S. is offering a choice of peanut butter, maple, coconut, or chocolate mint for $5 each. A Black Forest Truffle egg is available for $8.

Orders will be available for pickup between Thursday, April 5, and Friday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Buckingham County Administration Building.
Buckingham Recreation Department is considering developing an After-School P.L.A.Y. program. P.L.A.Y., Positive Learning and Adventure for Youth, would consist of a homework helper program followed by structured recreational activities along with personal development and enrichment opportunities.
Children would be able to interact with one another in a safe, positive and nurturing environment.

Central Virginia Christian School is gearing up for its seventh CVCS Golf Tournament.
This annual fundraiser is planned for April 28 at the Farmville Municipal Golf Course.
The Captain's Choice Tournament is open to all golfers who want to form teams of four and enjoy a day of golfing and good food.
Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, closest to the pin, and longest drive.

Gymnastics for ages 3 to 14 will begin in March at the Nazarene Campground, located on High School Road across from Buckingham Middle School. Cost for the six-week session is $40.
The program offers instruction in floor exercise, balance beam, and basic tumbling. Children will be grouped according to age and skill level.
Classes will be held one night each week, beginning at 6 p.m., 6:40 p.m., and 7:20 p.m., for the different age/skill groups.
Parents will be notified regarding the starting date and time after all registration forms are submitted

The Dillwyn 100th Anniversary Committee is searching for area bands who would like to showcase their talent at Buckingham County Day, Saturday, May 12.
This year, the Buckingham Lions Club, which hosts Buckingham County Day, is partnering with Dillwyn to celebrate the town's centennial anniversary.
Festivities will take place in Dillwyn. Plans include arts and crafts, vendors, activities for children and youth, educational and informational exhibits and displays, food, and music. Ellis Acres Memorial Park will be the venue for music and entertainment. Free shuttle bus service will be available throughout the day.
The Dillwyn 100th Anniversary Committee is hoping to provide a variety of music through out the day. Bands or groups who would like to volunteer to perform are asked to call John Staton at 983-2938.
