William C. Austin

FEBRUARY 14 – William C. Austin passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 20, 1929 to Joseph William Austin and Frances Baker Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean Austin on March 31, 2010, and his siblings, Thomas Austin of Saginaw, MI and Lucille Gibbin of Springville, NY.

Mr. Austin served in the Navy from 1946 to 1949. He started working for IBM in Buffalo, NY in 1949 transferring to Washington DC in 1960. He continued his career through the IBM breakup to Ceridian. He was also involved in the Junior Achievement Program, was an original resident of the Fairfax Villa neighborhood, and the Villa Pool. His retirement took him to Wingina to his beloved 'property' where he always had a project to fill his time – fix it, save it, grow it, can it, collect it. He is survived by his children, Marie (Richard) Lentz, Stephen (Jane) Austin, Lawrence (Linda) Austin, of Fairfax, David Austin of Richmond, Patricia (Dave) Geier of Rochester, NY, and Susan (Allyn) Campbell of Chesapeake. He was Pop-Pop to 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was Uncle Bill to seven nieces, nephews and their families. He will be greatly missed by his friend and neighbor, Eileen Murdoch.

Visitation and a memorial service will take place at Everly Funeral Home, Fairfax, on Sunday, February 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
