MIDLOTHIAN, Feb. 14 – John Carol Mitchell, 92, of Midlothian died Sunday February 12, 2012.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, worked in the garment industry for 36 years, and was manager of the Amelia Dress Factory for 22 years until his retirement in 1988. He loved his flower gardens and was a honorary member in the Amelia County Garden Club, the Amelia Lions Club, was a 10 year volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and a member of the Mattoax Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 68 years, Harriet Farrier Mitchell; daughters, Anne M. Neblett and husband Carroll and Carol M. Bridgforth and husband, Bill; five grandchildren, Jennifer A. Turns, Leslie C. Franklin, William L. Bridgforth, III., John T. Bridgforth, and Evan B. Neblett; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home. This will be followed by a time of fellowship with the family.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Amelia County Garden Club, c/o Mary Akers, 13111 Butlers Road, Amelia, VA 23002 or to Mattoax Presbyterian Church, 14600 Chula Road, Amelia, VA 23002.
