October 6 – Belated Happy Birthday wishes are sent out to Earl Absher and Cecelia Branch, both of Dillwyn, celebrating on Monday, October 10.
Our sympathy is extended to the Susan Absher Family of Dillwyn in the recent passing of her mom from Danville.
Our prayers and thoughts go out this week to all those who are sick and shut-in.
Pete and Annie May Miles, of Dillwyn, visited several residents at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn on Sunday afternoon, October 2.

Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church Thrift Store location U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn 339 Circle Drive in Arvonia is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Proceeds from the thrift store are used to help individuals and families in their hour of need.
Cedar Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Rt. 15 North of Dillwyn on State Rt. 650 (Trents Mill Rd.) hosts a Men's Promise Keepers Prayer Breakfast each Sunday mornings (excluding fifth Sundays) from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
Brown Chapel United Methodist Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Rd.), will host a fall event on Friday evening, October 7, from 6 – 9 p.m. under the pavilion.
There will be a sing along in addition to three groups performing and food available including hot dogs and the trimmings along with a covered dish meal for a donation to the building fund. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. For further information, contact Winnie Brown at 434-983-2006.
The Five County Fair of Farmville will hold their annual talent contest in the Varner Building on the Fair Grounds Thursday night, October 20 at 7 p.m. Talent includes singing, skits, poetry, playing a musical instrument etc. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place ($50), second place ($30), and third place winner ($20) in the following age groups. Petite youth, ages five to seven years old; junior youth, ages eight to 13 years; senior youth, ages 14-19; and adult, 20 and over.
