Laurence Butterfoss, 96

SEPTEMBER 8 – Laurence Butterfoss, 96, recent resident of Farmville, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. He was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, and worked in electronic research with RCA Laboratories and Hoffman LaRoche. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed camping, golf, history, repairing things and renovating “this old house,” his home for half a century. His inquisitive mind continued until his last days, always questioning fixed ideas.

He is survived by a daughter, Marianne Dennison and husband, Tom of Farmville; daughter, Joan Wall and husband, Douglas of Goochland; son, Thomas Butterfoss and wife, Frances of Yorktown; daughter-in-law, Elaine Butterfoss of Wilmington, DE; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son, Larry, husband of Elaine; Helen McQuade, mother of his children and wife of 35 years; Anne McQuade, his wife of 20 years; and Rita Giusto, his loving companion of his later years, who died in May.

A celebration of his life will be held in Princeton, NJ.
