BUCKINGHAM – According to Sheriff William G. Kidd, an armed robbery occurred in the New Canton area on Thursday, September 22, shortly after 11 a.m.
Kidd told The Herald on Thursday afternoon that a black male, dressed in gray sweat pants and a white hooded jacket, walked into the Jeffries Oil Company on Route 15, James Madison Highway at approximately 11:10 a.m. The man's face was covered and the hood was pulled up, added the sheriff.
Approaching the two females in the office, the man produced a handgun and instructed them to go to the back of the building and lie down on the floor, reported Kidd. He said the man then proceeded to take money from the cash drawer and fled on foot.
Although police questioned someone near the location shortly after the robbery, Kidd said the investigation at this point does not indicate that person was involved. The sheriff added that the investigation is ongoing.
“We ask that anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery and witnessed anything that could be pertinent to this investigation, or anyone with information about this crime, to please call us,” stated Kidd.
