CUMBERLAND, July 12 – John J. Adams Jr., of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 from complications of cancer.
He was was born in Bartlesville, OK, on February 9, 1927 to the late John and Leora Adams.
Mr. Adams served in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons since 1960 and was a member of Local 283 in Cumberland. He traveled all over the world with his job as a pipe fitter and retired after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Banton Adams; three stepchildren, Carol Rhoden, (Glenn) Butch Murphy and Michael Todd Murphy; a sister, Catherine Templeton (Henry) of Bartlesville, OK; aunt, Margaret Adams of Bartlesville, OK and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home by Rev. Rick Bucher, with interment at Salem Methodist Church, following the service.
Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, is in charge of arrangements.
