LCVA's Summer Art Studio Offers Free Activities

Escape the heat and make something cool at the LCVA this summer. The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts opened its annual Summer Art Studio on June 6, with free art activities for the family offered weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This summer's theme is time-travelers, highlighting art through the ages.
Biweekly themes are:
June 6 – 17: “Make Art Like an Egyptian” Hieroglyphics, pyramids, and mummies;
June 19 – July 1: “It's Greek (& Roman) to Me!” Grecian urns, mosaics, and mythology;
July 4 – 15: “A Great First Impression(ism)” Art by Van Gogh, Seurat, Monet, and Degas;
July 18 – 29: “The Mod Squad” Art by Warhol, Rothko, Calder, and Pollock;
August 1-5: “A Future Age” Time capsules, futuristic buildings, and robots.
An attendant is on hand to provide materials and instructions, but children must be accompanied by adults. Activities change every other week.
The LCVA is located at 129 N. Main Street in Farmville. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Saturday. For more information, please call 434-395-2206.
