Virginia C. Spencer

GEORGIA, Feb. 1 – Virginia C. Spencer, age 89, of Pike County, GA formerly of Dillwyn, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011. She was born in Charlottesville to the late William James Charlton and Martha Adocia Fones Charlton. She was a life-long residence of Buckingham County and had worked for the Buckingham County Board of Education for 36 years. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Shirley F. Spencer and a daughter, Shirley Anne Lawrence.

She is survived by a son, James L. Spencer and wife, Judy of Pike County; son-in-law, Lewis N. Lawrence; grandchildren, Sarah L. Shaffer and husband, David, Preston D. Lawrence and wife, Shea, Susan S. Burgess and husband, Chris, and Lisa K. Spencer; great-grandchildren, Stephen M. and Matthew R. Shaffer, Marley P. Lawrence, and Blaike H. Burgess; and a sister, Joyce C. Wright of Mechanicsville.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 5, at 12:00 o'clock in the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham with the Rev. Treu Gilliam and the Rev. Jimmy Dunn officiating. Friends may visit the family beginning one hour prior to the service at the church.
