Booker Named JRD Basketball Player Of The Year

Cumberland High School junior guard Devonte Booker was named the James River District's Boys Basketball Player of the Year in voting taken by the league's coaches on Monday night.
Amelia County High School head coach Everett Watkins was named the JRD Coach of the Year, after guiding the Raiders to the JRD Regular-Season Championship.
Booker heads up a First-Team class made up entirely of juniors. He was joined on the First Team by Cumberland teammate junior Rashawn Sims. Buckingham junior guard/forward Caleb White, Amelia junior Jahmel Johnson and Randolph-Henry junior Khari Jenkins rounded out the First Team.
Two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore were named to the Second Team. Buckingham placed three players on the Second Team. Junior Tarian Ayers was joined by senior Kevin Bolden and sophomore Camre Johnson. Central senior Jeremy Forward and Randolph-Henry junior Bryant Jones also made the Second Team.
Cumberland senior guard Shaquille Warren and Buckingham junior guard Landon Allen received Honorable Mention recognition. Also gaining Honerable Mentions were Amelia junior Tre Garland, ACHS classmate Sam Haskins and Randolph-Henry senior Jamie Dailey.
Amelia County High School's Sydnie Baker and Central of Lunenburg's Brianna Smith were named the James River District's Girls Basketball Co-Players of the Year in voting conducted by the league's coaches on Monday night.
Central of Lunenburg head coach Scott Wilson was named the league's Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Chargers to the JRD Regular-Season Championship.
Baker and Smith were joined on the First Team by Buckingham guard Elynn Lee and Cumberland guard I-Mecka Anderson. Rounding out the First Team were Jessica Hurt of Central of Lunenburg and Alicia Pugh of Randolph-Henry.
Cumberland's Jovanda Holman was named to the JRD's Second Team. She is joined by Amelia's Takia Williams and Jasmine Mitchell, along with Mariureka White-Jennings of Central of Lunenburg and Allison Roberts of Randolph-Henry.
Buckingham's Keona White and Robyn Davis were joined by Kamren Gilliam as Honorable Mention recipients.
Also garnering Hon[rable Mentions were Amelia's Briarna Givens and Khadiji Givens and Central of Lunenburg's Tashara Townsend.
