Join the Southside Virginia Family YMCA on December 11 as they host the Holiday Classic 5K, Chili Cook-Off, and golf ball drop.

On Dec. 11, the Y will kick off the festivities with the 4th annual Holiday Classic 5K race and one-mile youth race sponsored by Green Front Furniture. The rolling hill course surrounding the Y will start at 9 a.m., and medals will be presented to top three overall male and female finishers and top finishers in all of the age categories. All youth who participate in the one-mile fun run will receive a medal. The cost of the Holiday Classic is $20 per person and the fun run is $10. Following the races, the Y is hosting a Chili Cook-Off sponsored by Centra Southside Community Hospital. Everyone from the community is encouraged to enter one of the categories including amateur, commercial and fire department. There is no cost to enter the cook-off. A $250 cash prize will be awarded to both of the best amateur and fire department chilies and a plaque will be awarded to the top commercial chili in Southside Virginia. Throughout the course of the Chili Cook-Off, two bands, including Rocket Jump and Angie Gail and the Double Cross Band, will be providing musical entertainment sponsored by 202.

Concluding the festivities will be the helicopter golf ball drop at 12:30 p.m. A thousand golf balls will be dropped onto the Y lower field with a grand prize of $1,500 to the golf ball closest to the pin. Second and third place cash prizes will also be awarded and winner does not need to be present to win. Limited golf ball tickets are still available at the Y.
