Editor, The Herald:
The Cumberland Christmas Mother Committee is working to meet the needs of many families as Christmas approaches. Nearly 400 children are on our list to help, and, with your help, we hope to be able to give each a gift, an outfit of clothing, a book, and stocking stuffers this year.
We appreciate the people who have adopted an angel representing a child, those who have sent in monetary donations, and those who have dropped off new toys. Now two weeks away from the dates to give out gifts, we find that we are still in need of items to be able to meet all the needs.
If you are able, please donate by sending a tax deductible donation to Cumberland Department of Social Services, attention: Christmas Mother, PO Box 33, Cumberland, VA 23040. If you would rather donate toys, these can be dropped off at DSS also. Angels are still available at various businesses and banks in Cumberland or Farmville.
With your help, many children will have a happier Christmas and you can enjoy the pleasure of helping others.
We also would like to thank the churches, clubs and individuals who helped almost 40 families have a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. Many have called to express appreciation for the generous boxes of food.
Merry Christmas.

Committee Chairman
