The Cumberland County Planning Commission will meet on Monday, November 15, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Circuit Courtroom at the Cumberland Courthouse in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearing may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following item and taking actions in furtherance thereof:

Code Amendment 10-11- Proposed Amendment to the Code of Cumberland County: The Cumberland County Planning Commission proposes to recommend to the Board of Supervisors an amendment to the County Code entitled “An ordinance amending Chapter 74 of the Cumberland County Code amending Section 74-543. Conditional Uses. regarding the manufacture of fertilizer in the M-1, Industrial zoning district.” The proposed amendment would amend the section of the zoning ordinance pertaining to permitted conditional uses in the M-1, Industrial zoning district.

The public purpose of the proposed amendment is to address ordinance provisions regarding the manufacture of fertilizer as a conditional use in the M-1, Industrial zoning district. So that the spirit of the zoning ordinance is achieved, the proposed ordinance provisions would provide greater flexibility in permitting certain light and limited industries that do not detract from the residential desirability when located adjacent to residential uses.

Copies of the complete text of the above proposed ordinance, resolution and associated documents are available for public review at the office of the Cumberland County Planning Department, County Administration Building, 1 Courthouse Circle, Cumberland, Virginia between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm of each business day.
