William Miller, Sr., 78 Of Cumberland Dies September 6

CUMBERLAND, Sept. 9 – William Gill Miller Sr., 78, of Cumberland County, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol; son, William Gill Miller III and wife, Toni of Eden, NC; brother, L. Donn Miller and wife, Mary of Lovettsville; sisters-in-law, Ruth Conroy of Naples, FL, and Suzi Stone who resides in Jacksonville, FL with husband R. Jackson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was a skilled and active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He was involved in many organizations including Ducks Unlimited, and the Leesburg Lions Club. He was an active member of the Bull Run Hunt, Fairfax Hunt and Loudoun Hunt Clubs, and was a dedicated supporter of the Virginia Horse Show Association for many years.

During the years he lived in Fairfax County he was an active member of the Herndon Volunteer Fire Department and the Navy Volunteer Fire Department. He also served in the US Marines during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Farmville Moose Lodge and Johns Memorial Episcopal Church.

Bill had a great sense of humor as well as a special empathy with horses and other animals. He was a friend to all and was loved in return.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville.

The family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Virginia, 202 Clark Street, Farmville, VA 23901 or the American Cancer Society.
