Sylvester P. Slater, 78

MAY 19 – Sylvester Perry Slater, 78, of Farmville passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. He was born March 16, 1931 in Bannock, Ohio, a son of the late William R. and Theresa Chini Slater.
He was a Korean War Veteran and retired from the U.S. Air Force 53rd Weather Sqd. “Hurricane Hunter's” in June, 1971. He was also a retiree of Stack-pole Components Co., Farmville and The Supply Room Companies in Richmond.
He is survived by his wife, Maude R. (Midge) Slater of Farmville; a son, Alan P. Slater and wife, Nancey of Clifton, Fairfax County; two grandsons, Jon B. Slater and Joel A. Slater both of Arlington; two brothers, Donald and wife, Carol of Wickliffe, Ohio and Gary and wife, Susan of Chester.
A funeral service was held Monday at the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, was in charge of arrangements.
