Muriel Horlander, 76 Retired Postmaster Dies Monday

MEHERRIN, Jan. 13 – Muriel Jones Horlander, 76, of Meherrin, died Monday, January 12, 2004 at Chippenham Medical Campus.

She was born March 27, 1927 In Meherrin. She was the widow of Frank J. Horlander, Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Connie Horlander Wood and her husband, Joe; two grandchildren, Joseph Ryan Wood and Cathryn Elizabeth Wood all of Meherrin and one sister, Ruby J. Boaz of Martinsville.

Mrs. Horlander was a retired Postmaster having served 31 years with the Postal Service. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters, National League of Postmasters and the Retired Postmasters Association. She was a lifetime member of Meherrin Presbyterian Church and served as pianist/organist for many years.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home, Keysville, with Interment in the Family Cemetery at Sacred Heart Catholic Church In Meherrin. Pastor Shawn Reyburn will officiate.

The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meherrin Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Foundation.
