Marvin L. Carter, 83 Father of Area Resident, Dies

CLARKSVILLE, July 22 -Marvin Lester Carter, 83. of Crewe, formerly of Clarksville, widower of Lessie Allgood Carter, died Monday, July 19, 2004 In Farmvllle.

The son of William Pat and Lillie Carter, he was born and reared in the Finchley and Fields community.

Mr. Carter worked as a carpenter all of his adult life in addition to farming; and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Garland and Joyce Carter of Ken-bridge, Marshall Franklin and Jeanette Carter of Abilene and Wallace Wade Carter of Buffalo Junction; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Jane and Harry Gaston of Roanoke; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sisters, Gladys Harris of Finchley and Katheleen Coleman of Columbia, SC.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville, with interment in Bluestone Cemetery, The Reverend George Vaughan conducted the service.
