George “Bucky” Wood, 78

BUCKINGHAM, Oct. 13 – George Beverly “Bucky” Wood, 78 of Buckingham passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 in Dillwyn. He was born November 2, 1930 in Wingina (Nelson Co.). He was the son of the late Charles H. Wood Sr. and Kathleen Morgan Wood. Mr. Wood graduated from Lovingston High School and attended Virginia Tech. Mr. Wood worked for over thirty years with both the federal and state governments in the soil conservation service department.

“Bucky” loved spending time with the “morning bunch” at the Fas Mart in Dillwyn. He loved following Virginia Tech Football and watching NASCAR. He was a member of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church and a member of A. A. for 24 years. Most of all he loved being with family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Sarah Ann Wood Tolley and husband, Darren of Appomattox and George B. Wood Jr. and wife, Dena of Yorktown; brothers, Clifford E. Wood and wife, Louise and James A. Wood and wife, Barbara all of Wingina; sisters, Sarah W. Crews and husband, Jesse of Mechanicsville and Jane W. Witt and husband, George D. of Richmond; grandchildren, Peyton and Bryant Tolley, Sean Wood and wife, Arianne, and Tifani Wood; sister-in-law, Nancy Wood of Wingina and brother-in-law, Warren Hagood of South Boston and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles H. Wood Jr. and Maude W. Hagood and the mother of his children, Joyce Huffman Wood.

A funeral service was held Monday at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
