Eliza “Lila” Moss, 80

STUART, April 8 – Eliza “Lila” Waller Easley Moss, 80, of Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Stuart, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Stuart. She was born March 26, 1928 in Martinsville to Owen R. Easley Sr. and Cassie Louise DuVal Easley, both deceased.

Dr. Moss was an educator, physiologist, and Assistant Professor of Biology at St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, until her retirement in 1972. She received her B.S. from Longwood College, her M.S. from the University of Florida, and her PhD from New York University. She taught and conducted research at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and also conducted research at Boyce-Thompson Institute, Harvard University, Rockland State Hospital, and Rockefeller University.

Dr. Moss held membership in the Farmville Council on Human Relations, the American Chemical Society, the Harvey Society, the American Institute of Chemists, the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C.G. Gordon Moss, and a brother, Owen R. Easley Jr. She is survived by one brother, DuVal H. Easley of Martinsville, two nieces and one nephew.

A graveside service was conducted Saturday, April 5, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Randall Stevens officiating.
