Edward L. Bryant, 81 Retired Army Veteran Dies January 8

APPOMATTOX, Jan. 13 – Edward Lightfoot Bryant, 81, of Promise Land Road, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia Logullo Bryant.

Born in Buckingham Co., August 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Percy H. Bryant and Edna Rose Bryant. Mr. Lightfoot was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII and retired from Thomasville Furniture as a machine operator.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters; Gloria B. Andrews of Dillwyn and Barbara B. Atkins and husband, Charles of Meherrin; one step-son, Ronald Tucker and wife, Katrina of Appomattox; one stepdaughter, Anne Bates and husband, Roger of Farmville; three brothers, Elmo Bryant of Lynchburg, Marshall Bryant of Appomattox and Fred Bryant of Gladys; a sister, Dean B. Layne of Altavista; four grandsons, Gordon Chris Hurt, Keith Webb, Craig Chernault, and Blake Andrews; a granddaughter, Jill A. Evans; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley B. Webb; five brothers, Percy Jr., Calvin, David, Dudley and Camden Bryant and a sister, Lucy Bryant.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 11, in Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Ricky Hackett.
