David Smith, 85 Of Rice, Dies Saturday

RICE, Jan. 13 – David Smith, or Rice, died Saturday, January 10, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 1918 in Englewood, NJ, was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Demarest, NJ Volunteer Fire Department. He was a parish-loner of St. Theresa Catholic Church In Farmville where he volunteered at its food pantry.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jacqueline; his four children, David of Vermont, Deborah Devoursney of Tennessee, Cynthia Goddard of Vermont and Peter of Rice and their spouses and nine grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southslde SPCA or the Rice Volunteer Fire Department.
Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of arrangements.
