Cornelia Payton, 85 Retired Teacher Dies July 1

DILLWYN, July 13 – Cornelia Oreda Payton, 85, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Dillwyn.

She was born July 12, 1918 In Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Ulysses and Ethel Washington.

She was a retired teacher, having taught in Virginia and Florida.

She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Sands of Stone Mountain, GA and Dorothy Williams of the home; three brothers, Ulysses of Dover, DE, Russell of Washington, DC and Otto Kahn of Dillwyn; one brother-in-law; six sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband. Harry Payton.

A funeral service was held 12 noon Tuesday at Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Dillwyn, with interment in the church cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by the E. B. Allen Funeral Home, Farmvllle.
