Allen is survived by the love of his life, Sharon Charlton Wrenn, and her family, Christopher Andrew Wrenn, his wife, Tambra Reed Wrenn and granddaughter, Jenna Paige Wrenn of Roanoke, and Shannon Lee Wrenn of Del Mar, California. He is also survived by his children and their families, Sheryl Dahl Grekos, R.Ph., her husband, Paul and their children Olivia and George of Danville, Allen Louis Dahl, Jr., D.V.M., his wife, Nancy and their children, Jenna and Jamison of Clarksville, and Beth Dahl Compton, her husband, Josh and their children, Caleb and Adam of Danville.
“Phaedra” and “Skeeter” were Allen's constant and loyal friends – they will greatly miss his love and affection. He was happiest when in the company of Sharon and his canine companions at Dumplin' Mountain Farm, their little slice of heaven on earth.
Allen was a graduate of Farmville High School, class of 1957, Hampden-Sydney College, class of 1962 and the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy, class of 1966. After his retirement from a rewarding career in the practice of pharmacy, Allen became a local independent representative for Appalachian Log Structures, Inc. of Ripley, West Virginia. A gregarious person, he considered all of his many clients his lifelong friends.
Allen was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and the National Honorary Literary Society. He was a diehard University of Virginia sports fan.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to the Roanoke Valley Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
A memorial service and reception celebrating Allen's life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, on April 18 at 2 p.m.
