Claude Graves, 64 US Vietnam Vet Dies At Home In Cumberland

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, June 15 – Claude Douglas Graves, 64, departed this life peacefully at home in Cumberland County on Friday, June 11, 2010. He was born in Farmville on January 7, 1946, to the late Howard Louis and Etta Ayers Graves. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John, Albert, and Mike Graves all of Maryland.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Beverly Rowh Graves; daughters, Lori and Darryl Marston of Meherrin, Linda and Daron Layne of Farmville, and Anna and Jim Christie of Appomattox; sister, Mary “Molly” Fields of Cumberland; grandsons, Austin Black and Toby Layne; granddaughters, Autumn, Ashley and Aaryn Marston; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members.

Mr. Graves was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

A graveside service was held on Monday, June 14, at Center Presbyterian Church, Cumberland.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cumberland Volunteer Rescue Squad, Center Presbyterian Church, Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.

Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, was in charge of arrangements.
