Carolyn H. Jones, 82 Buckingham County Native, Dies Tuesday

DECEMBER 2 – Carolyn Harvey Jones, 92, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the East Pavilion.

A native of Buckingham County, she was a daughter of the late Caleb C. and Mary Baldwin Harvey. A graduate of Longwood College, Mrs. Jones taught school in Nansemond County and the City of Suffolk for 30 years. She loved children and enjoyed helping them grow and learn. She was an active member of the Holland United Church of Christ and the civic affairs of the Holland community for most of her adult life, until moving to the Village at Woods Edge retirement community in Franklin.

Survivors Include her husband of 57 years, Thomas Rawles Jones; one daughter, Carolyn J. Sherman and her husband, Robert of Bangor, Maine; two sons, Thomas Rawles Jones, Jr. and his wife, Maryann and Christopher H. Jones and his wife. Sally all of Alexandria; one sister, Mary Harvey Baldwin and her husband, Kyle T. of Lynchburg;

five grandchildren, Stacy J. Ries and her husband, Todd, Shannon Marie Jones, Sian B. Jones, Scott Sherman and Joseph Sherman and one great grandchild, Ashley Lorie Ries. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Newman and a brother, Caleb C. Harvey, Jr.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, at the Holland United Church of Christ.
