FARMVILLE — Senior captain Tristan Carey/Colonial Beach had a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead Longwood University to a 99-73 men's basketball victory past visiting NCAA Division II member Bluefield State College on Saturday evening at Willett Hall in Farmville. Sophomore Karl Ziegler/Annandale added 21 points for the host Lancers (4-7), redshirt-junior captain Jeylani Dublin/Brooklyn, New York had 17 points off the bench, and sophomore captain Lucas Woodhouse/Greenlawn, New York also contributed a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 assists. Remar Brothers scored a game-high 23 points off the bench, to lead the Big Blues (3-10). FARMVILLE — Striking with full force over the weekend, the Fuqua Falcons boys basketball team took a 72-50 win over the Southampton Academy Raiders.
The Falcons began the game with a tip-off possession that sent the team into a lead they would keep for the entire night. Montese Adams got the crowd going after he dunked the ball in the first quarter. Adams finished the night with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Antonio Gonzalez and Al Baker made a total of eight points and helped the team more with their assists. Gonzalez led the team with six assists, while Baker had four. Tuesday, December 17, 2013
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Mike Murray (Norfolk/Norfolk Christian) scored a career-high 22 points on Wednesday night to lift Hampden-Sydney (5-3, 1-1 ODAC) basketball to a 60-56 ODAC win at home against Randolph College (4-2, 1-1 ODAC).
The Tigers started the game off well with four straight baskets in the paint to lead 8-3 five minutes in, but back-to-back Randolph threes followed by a Seth Wimbish jumper put the visiting WildCats in front 11-10 with 11:14 left in the half. It was a close affair throughout the remainder of the stanza. With the game tied at 23-23 with four minutes to go, Murray nailed consecutive three pointers to put H-SC ahead 29-23 at intermission. FRANKLIN — Bruising defense and an efficient running game carried the Brunswick Bulldogs to a 27-0 victory over Buckingham County High School in Saturday’s VHSL Group 2A state semifinal football game.
"We had been written off when we were 2-2, but it shows a lot of character from the players and coaches to bear down and go on a run like they did," commented Buckingham Athletics Director, Ed Dike.
Brunswick (12-2) stifled Buckingham running back Kenneth Johnson, allowing him just 39 yards on eight carries.

FARMVILLE — Packed to the rim with fans from all over the county, Fuqua School gymnasium was filled with cheering and chanting all night on Friday, December 6 for the famous "Battle of Farmville" basketball games.
Although both girls and boys junior varsity teams from Fuqua fell to the Prince Edward County High School, the varsity teams made up for the losses with two winning games. The Lady Falcons finished 51-22 while the boy’s team finished 70-69 in overtime. Wednesday, December 11, 2013
