Herman Donald Atkins, 66

KEYSVILLE, April 16 — Herman Donald Atkins, 66, of Keysville, formerly of Crewe, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2014.

He is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Spillman (Charlie) and Lisa Haley (Dennis); four grandchildren, Shannon Spillman, Lindsey Spillman, Curtis Moorefield, and Brittney Moorefield; a brother, Dewey Atkins (Carolyn); and five sisters, Earline Fix (Henry), Geraldine Letterman (Doug), Alice Payne, Nancy Childress, and Ellen Jennings (Gene). He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman P. Atkins and Lillian Smith Atkins and a brother, Douglas Atkins.

Frank G. Scudner Jr., 91
PENNSYLVANIA, April 14 — Frank G. Scudner Jr., 91, of Lancaster, PA, and inventor of a gas-tube surge protector, died peacefully at Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, April 9, 2015. His invention was used by AT&T for decades to protect telephones from lightning power surges. Mr. Scudner was a WWII veteran who saw active duty in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was the father of five, grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of four, and the loving husband of Geraldine (Moore) Scudner for over 66 years. She preceded him in death in 2009.

Garnett, 74, of Charlotte Court House, departed for her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg.  She was born November 12, 1940 and was raised on a dairy farm near Bellingham, Washington. She was the daughter of Paul and Elsie Dickson and the beloved wife of Thomas H. Garnett, III for 49 wonderful years.

She was born July 28, 1918, the eldest of six children to the late Horace G. and Lottie D. Whitlow in Fluvanna County and was a former resident of New Canton.
