Parks Keep Shifting Into A Higher Gear

Buckingham, Cumberland, Farmville and Prince Edward share in this good news: 

Virginia’s state parks set new attendance records for the sixth straight year. 

With six of the Commonwealth’s 36 state parks located in those three counties, the continued growing popularity of Virginia’s state parks system has very definite local financial and recreational impacts on our community.

The Farmville Police Dept. Has Not Retired

Chief Doug Mooney has retired.

But the Farmville Police Department has not.

The department that has so vigorously raised its standards during the five years of Mooney’s leadership remains in place.

Dr. W. W. Porterfield And Gov. McDonnell; H-SC Professor Chose The Road Less Taken

Bob McDonnell could have learned a few things from Dr. W. W. Porterfield. 

Actually, the former governor could have gleaned a great deal from the retired Hampden-Sydney College professor who stepped down last month after chairing the Prince Edward County Planning Commission since the 1980s.

We Will Not Give Their Fliers Wings

The Klan came to town last Wednesday night.

Again.

Some Farmville and Prince Edward County residents woke up Thursday morning to find, in their front yard or doorstep, a sandwich bag containing gravel and a flier, believed to have been imported into our community and delivered by the white supremacist group the Loyal White Knights of the KKK.
