Call out the Commonwealth Regional Council’s professional staff and send them up Route 15, turning left on Route 60.
Clearly, the majority of Buckingham County Planning Commission members believe they need professional assistance to update the County’s Comprehensive Plan and bring it, and Buckingham’s zoning and subdivision ordinances, into state compliance.
Give it to them. The CRC, which helped Buckingham with its previous comprehensive plan update in 2008, is just what commission members need to see the job through this time. The CRC knows the county’s comprehensive plan inside out. Thursday, March 6, 2014

The Town of Farmville loses money every year on the Farmville Regional Airport and there are only three town residents, according to the town manager, who own a plane or hangar at the Cumberland-based facility.
So what’s in it for Farmville?
Why not just sell the airport?
Attempts some years ago to get Buckingham and Cumberland Counties to help fund the airport fell flatter than the last of the Shrove Tuesday pancakes. Only Prince Edward County makes an annual contribution, though there are pilots at the airport with Cumberland and Buckingham addresses and the entire area can benefit from the facility. Buckingham County’s board of supervisors has been asked to help secure a $3.5 million loan for the construction of a new public library.
A big ask, yes.
But totally justified.
Members of the library project’s fundraising committee are hoping the County’s participation can help secure a loan through the USDA Rural Development program or some similar agency and avenue. Tuesday, February 25, 2014
