BLACKSTONE, August 12 — James H. Bell, 96, of Blackstone, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014. He was one of 14 children born to William Paul and Annie George Wilkins Bell of Rich Square, NC.
Mr. Bell was stationed at Camp Pickett in the U.S. Army where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth, in Blackstone. He was called to duty in World War II and served in Normandy. Upon returning, he worked as an electrical lineman for the Town of Blackstone, then became a fireman at Fort Pickett Fire Department, where he retired. AUGUST 12 — Melvin E. ‘Pat’ Floyd, 81, departed this life on Monday, August 4, 2014. After graduating John Marshall High School in 1951, he entered the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Floyd obtained his formal education in engineering and surveying at the University of Richmond and Old Dominion University. In 1963, he founded Virginia Surveys, an engineering and surveying firm based in Chesterfield County. Tuesday, August 12, 2014
AUGUST 12 — Jason Victor Banton, 36 passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. He worked as a Computer System Analyst for Lockheed Martin. He served his country in the US Army 101ST Airborne Division, where he served in tours of duty in Iraq and Bosnia and was a mechanic in the National Guard.
